Northern
Nigeria
Many farming plains cover Northern Nigeria. The largest ethnic groups are the Hausa and Fulani. There are tensions between Christians and Muslims. Northern Nigerians take great care in protecting themselves from the sun. The Hausa are farmers, while the Fulani sell mainly milk products.
Western
Nigeria
Western Nigeria’s rainforests are almost completely gone. Many westerners live in the city of Lagos. The largest ethnic group is the Yoruba. Many Yoruba have migrated to the city from the countryside. Some Yoruba people work in factories, while others work as doctors and in offices.
Eastern
Nigeria
Eastern Nigeria sits on the Gulf of Guinea. The Benue and Niger rivers form the Northern and western edges of the region. The largest ethnic group is the Igbo. The main religion is Christian. Igbo build houses out of mud bricks and metal roofs. In swampy areas, people build houses on stilts and in the rainy season, paddle to them in canoes. Most of Eastern Nigeria’s revenue comes from oil in the Niger River Delta.
